Build a working wind turbine to harness power out of thin air. Wind is one of the most promising sources of clean, renewable energy available today. Wind energy has been used for centuries to pump water and crush grain in windmills, and is now increasingly being used to generate electricity to power our modern world.

First, assemble a wind turbine complete with electric generator, adjustable rotors, and wind speed indicator. Then, conduct more than 20 experiments with your wind turbine, including experiments with different numbers of rotor blades, different blade angles and profiles, different wind speeds, different gear ratios, and so on. Use the wind turbine to generate mechanical power to lift a heavy weight or generate electricity to light up an LED and charge a rechargeable battery. During the experiments, you will learn the physics of force and motion as it applies to wind power technology. Learn how to measure and calculate the different forces acting on the rotor blades by breaking them down into vectors.

Product Features

  • Build a working wind turbine
  • Harness mechanical energy from wind to lift weights
  • Generate electricity to light and LED and charge a battery
  • Learn the physics of wind turbines
  • Discover how wind occurs and why it is such a promising energy source

Cambyses says:

Dissappointed / Not worth the money This is sad, I don’t think they could have used cheaper materials. “Cut out the wind vane from the last page of the manual”. The blade pieces barely stay together, let alone form actual blades. I have not even passed the building process for this thing and I want to send it back. On a positive note the manual is informative and educational.

Anthony Rivera "Anthony541" says:

Flimsy and Over priced This wind kit is very flimsy, one piece broke while trying to fit it together. It’s all cheap plastic, I couldn’t imagine having to put this outside in the wind, it would not last five minutes. It’s good for some education purpose, but the price is way to high I wouldn’t pay no more than twenty dollars max. so you guys owe me change.

K. GIMELLIHEMME says:

Educational, but challenging for an 8 year old. As a science teacher, I can say this a great educational teaching tool, but it’s also a bit challenging. It says for ages 8 and up, but it’s probably more appropriate for 10 and up. I got it for my almost 8 year old science-psyched son and we decided to put it away for at least 6 months since many of the activities were more difficult than he was ready for at this time.
